Gentle chair yoga for seniors
Feel stronger and more flexible. Reduce pain. Decompress and still your mind
For those looking to learn to move and breathe in a gentle, mindful way, chair-based yoga is wonderful exercise accessible to anyone with limited mobility or flexibility.
Teaching chair-based yoga in aged-care settings, studios and online for over 15 years, I’ve seen how being in a small supportive class enables older students to feel at ease and realise all the things that are right with them and what they’re capable of doing, rather than focussing on what isn’t working or moving well. Students are pleasantly surprised and comforted, many wishing they’d started yoga earlier in life. Yoga is for everyone of any age and stage.
What is chair yoga?
Chair yoga is a low impact seated exercise class that allows you to honour your body no matter your physical challenges or limitations. Sitting, standing and balancing (with chair support), we explore simple movements, adapted postures, breath awareness, meditation and relaxation in a safe and supportive environment.
How can chair yoga help me?
If you’re in your 60s, 70s, 80s or 90s, challenged by arthritis, joint problems, lack of flexibility, limited mobility or recovering from injury or illness, incorporating chair-based yoga practice into your routine will bring you many rewards.
